Installation instructions

for HISBALIT mosaics

HISBALIT is supplied in 33,33 x 33,33 cm or 32 x 32 cm tiles, depending on the chosen format, and prices are joined by one of the following options:

ADHESIVE PAPER: Pieces are glued on the exposed face, so therefore they are not visible during placement.

HT-K: Tesserae have a polimer bead, forming a grid, gluing them together. The material is exposed after placement. It is the most resistant system, since it guarantees the pieces are all joined and an extra adherence to the surface via the grid-shaped polimer bead. System recommended for all types of applications.

*** In order to avoid errors during placement, both borders, designs and collections IDENTITY and HISBALIT DESIGN are supplied glued or mesh at no extra cost to the client.

PREPARATION OF THE SURFACE:
In order to obtain good adhesion to the surface, it should be totally free from dust, grease, paint, efflorescence, grout, plaster or any other substance that may affect the mosaic adhesion.

The best surface is a fine coat of water-repellent mortar. Both walls and floors should be perfectly leveled and smoothed.

FIXING MATERIALS:
The use of a specific adhesive mortar for zero absorption, mixed binder and deformable products is recommended. We advise the use of adhesive mortars that complies with the EN 12004 and EN 12002 C2TESI standards.

GROUTING:
We advise a cement-based capping grout for thin joints, with no aggregates, deformable, water repellent and stain resistant that comply with de UNE-EN 13888 CG2 W standard. All adhesive manufacturers have also a chart of coulored capping grouts.

Special care must be taken when grouting matte and Grade 3 anti-slip materials with coloured grouting:

Before coloured grout that contrasts with Hisbalit mosaic tiles, verify that it is easy to clean. This may be diffcult in the case of highly microporous surfaces such as Class 3 anti-slip tiles and some matte models of the STONE series. It is recommended to make an initial test separately or in a small hidden part of the work area. Before grouting these types of mosaic finishes, or in the case of high temperatures, it is recommended to pass a damp sponge to seal or cool the porous surface without leaving traces of water in the joints.

Recommendations for cleaning coloured grout:

Eliminate excess grout using a rubber squeegee or the same grout float diagonally across the joints. Begin cleaning the mosaic tiles when the
grout has thickened in the joint. For final cleaning use a large sponge, dampened with clean water, that is thick enough to avoid disturbing the joint grouting. Keep the water clean by using an appropriate cleaning bucket with a colander and cleaning rollers for the sponge. Scrub in a circular motion to remove any hardened grout on the tiles. For large surfaces, it is recommended to use an electric grout cleaning machine with sponge rollers. Finish cleaning by scrubbing diagonally across the tiles using a uniform amount of water on the whole surface to prevent colour variations in the grout.

1- Using a notched trowel spread a layer of tile adhesive 0,07 to 0,11 inch thick.

2 – Place the Hisbalit tiles over the tile adhesive. Align the tiles taking care the distance among them matches the distance between the pieces, so that all joints are equal.

3 – Beat the glazed covering with a wood or rubber trowel so that it penetrates the layer of tile adhesive.

4 – Once it is dry, moist the paper covering the Hisbalit tiles. It is very important to moist only the paper that is going to be removed immediately. Do not allow the paper to get dry once it has been moisted.

5 – Remove the paper as shown in the image

6 – Clean off the excess adhesive with a moist sponge

7 – Once the tile adhesive is dry, fill the joints with grout and special mortar with a grout float.

8 – Remove most of it with a rubber window wiper.

9 – Clean with a moist sponge

10 – Finish cleaning with a dry cloth.
