Frequently asked questions about installation and maintenance
What condition should the surface be in before installing mosaic?
Proper substrate preparation is essential for a long-lasting installation. The surface must be clean, dry, stable, level and plumb, free from dust, grease, plaster residue, paint or efflorescence. The moisture content of the substrate must not exceed 3%.
Is waterproofing necessary before installing mosaic?
Yes. On surfaces exposed to continuous moisture, such as swimming pools, showers or façades, proper waterproofing must be carried out beforehand. Glass mosaic alone does not guarantee that the
surface is watertight.
How is Hisbalit mosaic installed?
Hisbalit mosaic is installed in sheets joined using the HT-K system. The process includes applying the adhesive, laying the sheets, grouting and final cleaning.
Before grouting, it is recommended to wait between 24 and 48 hours to allow the adhesive to set properly.
What type of grout is recommended for mosaic?
There are two main options: improved cementitious grout CG2WA and epoxy grout R2 + G2.
Epoxy grout provides complete waterproofing, high chemical resistance and greater durability, among other benefits.
Can mosaic be installed over existing tiles or wall coverings?
Yes. Thanks to its approximate thickness of 4 mm, Hisbalit mosaic can be installed directly over an existing covering, provided that the surface is clean, stable, properly levelled and free from loose pieces. On glossy surfaces, it is recommended to apply a bonding primer beforehand.
How should glass mosaic be cleaned?
After installation, it is important to carry out a final post-installation cleaning to remove
any residue left from installation and grouting.
For routine cleaning, glass mosaic is very easy to maintain. It can be cleaned with water and neutral detergent and, when necessary, common cleaning products such as bleach can be used.
What maintenance does swimming pool mosaic require?
It is recommended to monitor the chemical balance of the water, clean the waterline regularly and check the condition of the grout. In saltwater chlorinated pools, the guide recommends using epoxy grout to improve the durability of the covering.
Can a broken mosaic tile be repaired?
Yes. One of the advantages of mosaic is that it allows localized repairs without having to work on large areas. The damaged tile can be removed and replaced with a new one, while maintaining the original alignment and grout width. It is advisable to keep some spare tiles after installation.
