Have a renovation in mind for 2019? If you want more natural light and a greater feeling of space, don’t miss the renovation of “PRIVATE HOUSE PARLAMENT 19” by MIEL Arquitectos and STUDIO P10!

The designers carried out an incredible renovation of a 65m2 flat in the Sant Antoni district of Barcelona. Their main goal was to fill the space with light, colour and vitality. They achieved this through a creative interplay of mirrors and the use of mosaic tiles on the walls and floors of the kitchen and bathrooms.

As they themselves describe it, this project was an experiment, playing with perspectives, the reflections of the mirrors as doors fold and unfold, the lights and vibrant colours.

In search of natural light

The biggest surprise about the space is the creative distribution of mirrors within the flat. A mirrored structure surrounding the two bathrooms and the kitchen was created, producing a kaleidoscopic effect that captures the natural light and elements from outside. It also creates an illusion of space extending to the bedrooms and living areas.

The mirrors are strategically positioned to reflect the typical banana trees of the streets of Barcelona, thus adding a touch of nature to the décor. The living areas surround the “cube” of mirrors.

The flat also includes two bedrooms, storage area, balcony, living/dining room and an entrance hall. There are sliding doors and curtains separating each space, allowing for more intimacy at different moments.

The white and yellow colours fused with the warmth of the natural wood features unify the décor of the space and give an air of rustic minimalism.

While colour is brought into the rooms using decorative beams, fixtures and furnishings, in the bathrooms and kitchen glass mosaic tiles were chosen to surface the walls and floors.

For this, the architecture and design studios decided on high quality, ecological mosaic tiles by Hisbalit, specifically a personalised combination of yellow tones and an Open Mix GRADATION, using reference UNICOLOR 103 (white) and 302 (yellow) in hexagonal format. The brilliant and luminous colours combine to give a special vibrant note to the space.

This is an entirely unique and exclusive way of expressing oneself through colour, with a smooth and harmonious feel.

As this is a non-porous material, with 0% absorption, mosaic tiles are ideal for use in bathrooms and kitchens. Easy to install and requiring virtually no maintenance, Hisbalit mosaic tiles are exceptionally hygienic and anti-allergenic, repelling humidity to prevent the appearance of mould and bacteria.
