The design studio Drom Living has converted a disused utility room on the roof of a large apartment-hotel building into a unique and attractive apartment with a special blend of Nordic design and Mediterranean charm.
The main challenge
The main challenge of the project was to incorporate a kitchen, living-dining room, bathroom and bedroom into a rectangular space of 22m2, initially without any natural light and in very poor condition. Now, this same space is fresh and luminous, both functional and wonderfully welcoming.
The renovation optimised every millimetre to open the space to natural light. This meant redesigning the distribution of the original space entirely, moving the entrance and installing two large picture windows to flood the room with sunlight and give stunning views of the sea.
3 distinct zones
The apartment was conceived as a diaphanous space divided into 3 distinct zones: the bedroom, kitchen-living room and bathroom. The combination of natural oak, blue textiles, stone grey walls and white furnishings produce a fresh and welcoming atmosphere with a Nordic-Mediterranean feel.
Splashback with mosaic
While the bedroom and the living-dining room have a grey, wood patterned vinyl laminate floor, hexagonal mosaic tiles were installed in the kitchen, specifically reference 305 of the Unicolor collection by Hisbalit, a leader in the design and manufacture of eco-friendly mosaic tiles.
The kitchen splashback was also surfaced in mosaic tile, an attractive finish using a heat-resistant, eco-friendly material with a lifespan of 30 to 40 years.
The same model of grey hexagonal tile was installed on the shower walls, giving a special touch of distinction to the small bathroom positioned between the bedroom and the living/dining room, separated by a translucent glass panel.
Completely renovated 45m2 terrace
One of the most attractive features of the new apartment is the private, completely renovated 45m2 terrace, with a cool, anthracite-coloured synthetic flooring, a large pot with aromatic plants and spectacular views over the sea… the lap of luxury!
